My name is Meredith Howard and I am an alumnus of The College of William & Mary '11. I hail from Richmond, Virginia - specifically on the far West End. I spent most of my undergraduate work on the Spanish Inquisition and the history of Early Modern Europe. So my choice to spend the next year of my life in South Korea working as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant might come as something of a surprise! But for the past year, South Korean pop music and tv dramas (known as k-pop and k-drama respectively) have been my favorite homework breaks! Funnily enough, it was because of my trips to Spain that I was exposed to Korean culture. Odd how things can work out like that.
Regardless, I can't wait to spend time in the country actually eating the food (I LOVE KIMCHI!), walking the streets, watching the television live, and perhaps getting to see some of my favorite performers live!
Of course, I'm also extremely grateful and excited to get the chance to help young Koreans improve their English skills. Although I've never taught in a formal setting before, I'm so enthusiastic about getting to make an impact on the lives of young adults. I feel that teaching is my true vocation, so I know that this experience is going to be pivotal in helping me to decide what to do with my life. So ... Korea, let's go!
